A chance to run through the tussocks and past the rock tors of The Burgan run

A charity fundraiser by Taieri Rotary Club

Five options

12km

A 12km run through the tussocks at the base of the Rock & Pillar Range, then ford the Sutton Stream, and return to the start past the magnificent rock outcrops that make The Burgan such a unique environment.
Total altitude gain - 270 metres

A short adventure run for those who want an opportunity to experience somewhere different

24km

Head across the base of the Rock & Pillar range before fording the Sutton Stream, and a long steady uphill to views down over the surrounding hills and paddocks.
Then a long downhill to recross the Sutton stream and final uphill to the finish point.
Total altitude gain - 500 metres

An opportunity to traverse some spectacular and varied country.

17km climb

After initially traversing 4km across paddocks, climb a zigzag track to the top of the Rock & Pillars for sweeping views, then return.
Total altitude gain - 700 metres

An opportunity to test yourself over some spectacular country.

9.7km Dry

For those why want to experience this unique country, but keep their feet dry.

Similar route to the 12km run, but skips fording the Sutton Stream.

Total altitude gain - 200 metres

An opportunity for a short cross country run with a difference.

19.2km Dry

Two loops of the 9.7km course, for those who want to stretch out over a longer distance, but keep their feet dry.

Total altitude gain - 400 metres

All groups will initially follow the cyclist route across the base of the Rock & Pillar range

A unique feature of The Burgan Run is the 600 metre long rock outcrop that looks like an ancient dinosaur spine

Looking north down the long slope the 24km option will descend to re-ford the Sutton Stream

BBQ Lunch to finish

Be sure to bring some cash, (and some cold ones in a chilly bin) so you can take the time to grab a delicious meat patty BBQ bun and other great snacks selection when you finish, put on by Taieri Rotary Club

You are sure to be hungry, and what better way finish the event than to share stories over a bun and a cold drink

Getting There

The Burgan Run, where this event is located, is 30 minutes (42km) from Outram, on the road to Middlemarch.

The run is scheduled to start at 9.35am. You should plan to be at the road turnoff before 8.50am to allow time to drive the farm road to the woolshed and be ready for event briefing at 9.30am

Conditions of Participation

In entering this event you acknowledge that there are risks in participating, and

  • You agree that the Rotary Club of Taieri and its members, event marshals, and the property owners, are indemnified against any loss that may occur by participating in this event, irrespective of the cause

  • You agree to obey all instructions given by event marshals and organisers

  • If you purchase tickets on behalf of others, you will ensure they are also aware of these conditions

  • You will receive a full ticket refund if the weather or other events mean the event can not proceed as planned
