“Round the Rocks”
Off Road Cycle Adventure
Sun 1st Feb 2026

An off road cycle over the spectacular landscape of Rocklands Stn and The Burgan run

New location & more route options.

A charity fundraiser by Taieri Rotary Club

Three options

Softies

10km or 20km of Off Road Cycling, depending on whether you do one or two loops of the “Dry Feet” hikers course.

.An option for the less adventurous who would still like the opportunity to cycle off road across some unique country.

The route still has one short steep pinch where you will need to push, and a steeper slope you will need to zigzag up, but avoids any of the more challenging tracks, and keeps your feet from getting wet.

A chance to cycle off road in a safe location with varied terrain and scenery.

Cruisies

24km of Off Road Cycling, over farm tracks and around the rocks and tor outcrops of the Burgan Run and Rocklands Stn.

500m climbing in total over the 24km.

While still more challenging than conventional cycle trails, this route is not as difficult as our previous “Round the Mountain” events.

Suitable for step through e-bikes so long as you are able to use “walk mode” to get up some short (5 to 8 metre) steep sections, and you don’t mind getting your feet wet

See more details below

A real adventure ride for those who enjoy an opportunity for a bit more than a standard tourist or commuter trail.

Tuffies

42km of Off Road Cycling, with 1100m climbing.

Start by climbing 600 metres up the front face of the Rock & Pillar Range, and drop over the top onto the Old Dunstan Road adjacent to the Loganburn reservoir.
Then a long downhill to Rocklands Stn and finally ford the Sutton Stream for the short climb back to the start at The Burgan woolshed.

A chance to traverse some spectacular and varied country

Some example photos of the country you will be traversing

Traversing the base of the Rock & Pillars.
From here, the Softies branch down through paddocks, and the Cruisies continue traversing to eventually ford the Sutton Stream, while the Tuffies take on the 600 metre climb up the front face of the Rock & Pillars

An example of the rock outcrops you will pass

Expect to get wet feet fording the Sutton Stream

““Tuffies” will be climbing a track up the Rock & Pillars, with the resulting views over the plains below

There is a reason the event is named “Round the Rocks”!

Crusies and Tuffies will finish by traversing down across Rocklands Stn paddocks to ford the Sutton stream and then a climb back up to The Burgan woolshed

After the climb up the Rock and Pillars, “Tuffies” will then descend down to the Loganburn reservoir and the Old Dunstan Road before turning left and heading back down the hill onto Rocklands Stn

Cruisies - be warned. There are a total of 4 short uphill sections where, if your bike is not low enough geared, you may need to push it up, such as in the example above.
