An off road circumnavigate the Maungatua Range
A charity fundraiser by Taieri Rotary Club
Unique Opportunity - 4WD Vehicle Circumnavigation of the Maungatua Range
Travel Off Road around the Maungatua Range, above the Taieri Plains. Travel over a total of 8 properties.
Great Views of the Taieri Plains to the South and East, and the Lammermoor Range to the North West.
Option of steep or moderate track choices
Restricted to “proper” 4WD vehicles
High/Low ratio transfer case
All Terrain or Mud Terrain tyres
Rated tow point front and rear
Suitable for Ranger’s, Hilux’s, Pajero’s, Patrol’s, and similar
Be Aware - unlike our El Dorado 4WD trip in Nov 2021, this trip is not suitable for novice drivers.
Alternative Date - Sun 12th Mar. Backup date if wet ground conditions on 12th Feb forces a postponement
Limited to 120 vehicles, divided into 4 groups of 30 vehicles.

Trip Details
The trip starts from West Taieri Rugby Club, Outram on Sunday morning.
You will be notified of your start time closer to the event
Travel up through Horsehoof station via farm tracks
to the north end of the mountain
To reach the 2 way radio tower
With its view of the Silverpeaks to the north
and Saddle Hill to the east
And across the tops to the South
From here traverse the Western slopes
with their views of the Lammermoor and R&P ranges
Eventually you will reach the Beattie woolshed, where you will have the option of a country style lunch provided as a fundraiser by Lee Stream school.
(Or of course, you can also bring your own.)
From here travel up across bulldozed tracks around the South face of the mountain
With great views to the South from the 3 Kings.
And finish by traversing the Eastern Face of the mountain with its bush gullies and further views of the plains.

We will be stopping for lunch at Les Beattie’s woolshed.
You have two options.
Bring your own lunch
Or support the Lee Stream School who are providing a delicious filled roll and home baking lunch as a fundraiser for their school.

(Of course, as with any trip off road, we recommend you bring a thermos and spare food, in case of unexpected delays)

Conditions of Participation
4WD vehicles only, equipped with
High/Low transfer case
A/T or M/T tyres (NO road tyres) with good tread depth.
A rated tow point front and rear (Replace towballs with a 3.2T bow shackle).
Required equipment to be carried.
Although most of the track will be on hard ground, there are a several steep stretches and potentially muddy crossings, so there is a good chance you may need to tow, or be towed, for a short length. So, also to be carriedSpade or shovel
9m+ tow strop (standard 4m Repco type tow ropes not adequate)
Bow shackle (3.2T min) for attaching tow strop to vehicle
Soft Shackle for joining tow strops if needed.
Appropriate First Aid Kit
You agree that the Rotary Club of Taieri, its members, event marshals, and the property owners, are indemnified against any loss that may occur by participating in this event
You agree to obey all instructions given by event marshals
You will receive a full ticket refund if the weather or Covid 19 level restrictions mean the event can not proceed as planned
